I got my shipment from TaoBao slightly late due to some shipping issues. No matter, the most important thing that it's here now. Let's start with the box and bricks packaging. My box was slightly damage due to the shipping but the contents were intact. The box packaging looks similar but the number of bricks were different. Lego has slightly less bricks compared to the bootleg version. I'm not sure why myself.
There are 2 smaller boxes in the box. Inside the 2 small boxes were the bricks packaging and manual. Yes, the bricks packaging are not labeled according to the building sequence as usual. This is an absolute nightmare for me since this set is HUGE - 4705 pieces! Let's look at the box and bricks packaging below.

Before we start assembling, the first thing that I did was to find all the empty boxes from my other sets to sort the bricks. Smaller pieces goes into that special plastic container while the rest goes into the boxes sorted by size.
Sorting the Bricks
Now, to Hell...
* I made a mistake here. The hollow side of the white walls should be facing in. When I realized that, it was too late.
Yes, finally completed! It took me about 24 hours, as in actual hours, to complete it. I made a lot, I mean a lot of mistakes in the assembling partly due to my poor eye vision. Let me explain what I did wrong.
1. The wall placement. You can refer to my picture with a comment above.
2. The colors can be confusing on the manual namely the red/brown, the light and dark gray and finally the transparent bricks. If you notice in the last picture above, the staircase on the left is off colour a bit. This is due to me using the brown bricks in the wrong place so I had to replace with red. Bummers!
3. I did not push in the bricks properly so the base plates tend to warp a bit so my building cannot open and close very well without using some force.
If you notice, I took out some furnitures infront of the main doors. Why? I just bought an original Lego Ecto-1 and it can only fit it if I remove some furnitures according to some websites.
No, for the reviews. For the price and fun itself, I'll give it a 10 out of 10! The bricks quality and mini figures are so-so only compared to other LEPIN releases. I don't like the quality of the mini figures; the legs are loose and always fall off. I have 1 missing brick (library ghost missing a hand) and 2 damaged bricks (refer below).

I'll be reviewing my LEPIN 15001 probably next week. Stay tune! Thanks for reading.

ReplyDeletegreat as always :)
Thanks~! :)
DeleteHow much is the set
ReplyDeleteClose to 500 ringgit Malaysia. If you wait longer, might drop.
ReplyDeleteMy library ghost is missing a hand also!
ReplyDeleteHmmm, let me check with others to see if they have the same issue. Good thing those bootleg mini figures are cheap now so it's easy to find a replacement. Maybe I should remove a hand from Luke Skywalker and give it to the Library Ghost :)
Deletei cant view the video. may i know if the sliding pole works perfectly? and you mentioned some force is required to open the buiding . is it smooth ?
ReplyDeleteYes, it works perfectly. Smooth.
DeleteOoops, changed video permission. It was set to private earlier. Sorry guys/girls.
ReplyDeleteLooks good. But I'm seriously contemplating if this is worth getting or should I just spend more and just get the original one from Lego. The only thing I'm worried about with getting this bootleg are quality and missing pieces...hmmm..
ReplyDeleteWhat most people do is...they buy and keep the original nicely in the box (MISB) and invest in the bootleg to assemble and put it for display. I don't think anyone can tell the difference from far. This way, you can have fun assembling the HQ but without destroying the value of the original (if you plan to resell).
ReplyDeleteHey Xeon,
ReplyDeleteLove your posts. How do you order from Taobao, I tried and I can get most pages into english, but when I go to check out it takes me to Alipay, which I've never used, and I cant get it to translate to english to help fill it out. How did you order yours. Please explain it to me like I'm 5. Here is the link that it sent me to so you can see what is up https://memberprod.alipay.com/account/reg/complete/complete.htm?scene=cashierComplete&gotoPage=https%253A%252F%252Fcashierzui.alipay.com%253A443%252Fforeign%252Fforeignpay%252FforeignPayCashier.htm%253ForderId%253D06279fed8725d1fb7c400ferclou3101%2526bizIdentity%253Dtrade10001%2526outBizNo%253D2016062721001001100297386224%2526timeStamp%253D1466981992599%2526country%253DOTHER&enctraceid=gRwcQVlRCkQlf9OsuwvuohTeBiWpjy0V2kKG7j1unN4,
Thanks in advanced
The funny thing is...I can't read or write in Chinese. I'm using third party websites to purchase. I'm in Malaysia and we have a lot of third party websites like Wiwaa, Ezbuy, etc. I'm not sure about your country though.
Deletethanks for the prompt reply. I'll have to look around.
ReplyDeleteJust finished mine yesterday. Very impressive for a bootleg. Sure beats spending around 500 to 600 for the Lego one. And what's with all the Lepin library ghost missing a left hand? Lol.. Mine is missing a hand too!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think they missed out one hand during the packaging (computer/machine error?) since you are like the 10th or 11th person who reported a missing hand.
DeleteIf not mistaken all lepin sets are manual packing. Thats funny since everone missing a hand

DeleteI wanna ask, when you guys attached the first floor and second floor on top of the ground floor , does it feel loose ? Should it be solid/tight or should it be easily detachable for viewing purpose?
ReplyDeleteI have looked at other people's video review on the original set on Youtube. The reviewers are able to detach the floors with ease so I assume it should feel loose but not too loose of course until it falls off when you move the building around.
DeleteThis is a topic that is close to my heart... Many thanks! Where are your contact details though?|

ReplyDeleteezbuy
Deleteoo..may i know what is the delivery charges for this set? thanks
DeleteHmmm, I registered for the special "Prime" membership so it will be cheaper. But for regular shipping, I think it will be expensive because of the box size...probably about 80 ringgit Malaysia?
Deletethanks for sharing man. Its a cool review . Saw many sets like the for sale but worry about space issue. I do have space not and feel like building a city but scare wife will divorce me....

DeleteIf you are worried about space, you definitely need to avoid the building sets. I had to install racks just to store them
DeleteI facing missing some bricks like green block, library ghost grey hair and left hand, tully left hand as well... Wonder any of you facing same issue ?
ReplyDeleteOnly one missing hand from the library ghost so far
DeleteThe library ghost hair izit look same as the box or diff type? Any body missing window transparent glass??
ReplyDeleteIt looks slightly different. Regarding the transparent glass, I don't think it's missing. You have extra white glass right? I think you might have put wrongly.
DeleteNice! They're on eBay now too :)
ReplyDeleteI want Christmas sets, the new Christmas train coming out next month, the Ecto-1 car, love the prices!
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting for the train sets...and praying they have the Power Functions for the train to move
ReplyDeleteI got the haunted mansion and missing the glass too :(
ReplyDeleteSo far I've built the first floor of the haunted mansion. It's fantastic! Super quality and well worth the price. So far 1 bent piece and missing most of the transparent glass.
ReplyDeleteStill waiting for mine but now...I need to complete my UCS Millennium Falcon
DeleteHi, do you mind to help me to measure the height of the head quarters, as i'm planning to build acrylix box to cover it after it done build. Many thanks.
